brief, concise, condensed, short

【brief】brief与short同义，通常形容时间、事件、写作说话很简短、简洁。

例句：What follows is a brief summary of the process.

接下来是对该过程的一个简短总结。

【concise】指某人的言语或文字只用少量文字传达了大量信息。

例句：Teaching content should be concise.

数学内容要少而精。

【condensed】有“凝炼”之意，即被压缩的。

例句：The council was merely given a condensed version of what had already been disclosed in Washington.

该委员会仅得到了已在华盛顿披露的内容的一个缩编版。

【short】最普通的词，可指时间和空间。

例句：There will now be a short interlude.

现在有一段短时间的幕间休息。

endure, bear, tolerate, put up with

【endure】侧重于指忍受不可避免的打击、较持久的困难、痛苦、灾祸，毫无怨言。

例句：He had to endure six months’ loss of liberty.

他得忍受六个月失去自由之苦。

【bear】强调忍受者忍受不愉快的事物。

例句：They will have to bear the misery of living in constant fear of war.

他们将不得不忍受在没完没了的战争恐惧中生活的痛苦。

【tolerate】着重于强调即使不喜欢某种事物或某人，但还是接受。

例句：Lying is something that I will not tolerate.

撒谎是我所不能忍受的。

【put up with】常用于口语，表示“不计较，将就”，意思近似于tolerate。

【abstract】意为“概要，摘要”，尤其指对学术论文或法律论据作的简述。

【digest】意为“（篇幅较长的）摘要，文摘”，它是对原文的浓缩而不是对原文的简单解释，浓缩后仍保持原文的顺序、重点和风格。

【outline】意为“要点，大纲，概要”。

例句：You should draw up a plan or outline for the essay.
